Oh No Andrew E.

Someone called the show and brought this to attention. Apparently, the Andrew E. hit song 'Humanap Ka Ng Pangit" isn't as original as once thought. This is a video from a 1988 song called "Find An Ugly Woman" by Cash Money. The lyrics, beat, and melody are almost exactly the same as the 1991 hit "Humanap Ka Ng Pangit" which launched the very successful rap and acting career of Andrew E. Now, I'm unaware if Andrew ever claimed that his song was originally his or if that it was a remake or spoof (like in the case of Parokya Ni Edgar whom obviously spoofs popular rock songs by making a 'Pinoy' version). I absolutely love Andrew E., I think he may be the best freestyle rapper we have ever had, but this might be a brewing issue. I'm going to say that Andrew E generally made comedy songs based on foreign songs anyway and that this was just the first one. Listen to this version and tell us what you think.

wow!! is this for real...? O.O
I love Andrew man..
just can't believe that there's an original version
of his masterpiece.. W O W
Oooops. They're the same. Disappointing! I thought it was Andrew E's original. Tsk!
This would be like the case of "Pinoy Ako" and the "Chandelier" song. Haha!!
yeah, same, same...
Find an ugly woman, Wag na uy wawag na wag na.... Find an ugly woman, Wag na uy wawag na wag na.... Find an ugly woman, Wag na uy wawag na wag na....Find an ugly woman...ibigin mong tunay... Break it down!!!
I remember few months after the release of "Humanap ka ng pangit", it was accused of ripping off Cash Money's song "Find An Ugly Woman" but I think no one took it seriously. Maybe ripping off songs was not a big deal back then .
At least he got rich and famous with it though, unlike Cash Money. hehe!
yeah men i believe andrew e. just make a spoof of this rap....you can also tell that when he is making a freestyle rap...the rhyming is sucks...compare it when the late francis m. making a freestyle rap.
c'mon mr.twister how come you said he is the best freestyler in our country.. ang alam nya lang eh..say hooo say hheeeeee.... have you watched the tribute to francis m. dati..he maked it damn
each verse is literally translated to filipino!
Cash money - She's not pretty at all, but she treats me like a king (Is that why you care for that ugly thing?)
Andrew E - Di sya maganda pero ako'y kanyang hari (yan bang dahilan kaya't kasama mo palagi?)
Ayus!
Maybe Andrew E. didn't expect we'd all have internet connection and YouTube someday.
I'm pretty sure he did claim this as his original composition in the Sharon Cuneta Show. sabi niya nagawa daw niya to habang nasa bus siya.. oh well..
can't wait to hear what andrew e. has to say about this....
lol. He is not the best rap freestyler in PH! There's Francis M and Glock 9...
another proof that pinoys are really great when it comes to pangongopya/panggagaya.
kung sinabi na lang ni andrew e. from the start eh ok lang naman eh. naaliw din naman tayo sa kantang to..
well i guess this is just one those so called "hollywood secrets" that record companies or tv networks tend to hid to make hits and make good impressions for the stars, but hey..admit it 90's people, we all loved andrew E's songs, we all grew up with his rap.. and its just nice to unravel some secret stories that made them once at the top..
HOLY CRAP!
andrew E, you're dead man!
ghost from the past starts to haunt you!
actually im aware of this thing na may kinunan tlga xa ng mga songs but not aware to the song...halos lahat nmn ata ng songs nya kinuha sa iba...
its just o.k. if he modified the song or should we say "filipinized" it... what he did is a reflection of our culture - the culture of imitation.. Technically, he did copy it, but he contributed his voice and antics in the success of the song – so in some way he improved the song for the Filipino listeners. Andrew E. made a killing in recording sales - he was lucky and talented. Hell, even the art of copying requires talent. So… its just o.k.. Please remember, we are not the only people or nation who copies. Some of the rich countries today developed and obtained economic success via imitation or "emulation".
I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Andrew E ripped off the beat & the lyrics (and just translated it in tagalog). Intentional or not, I really think it's wrong. Nowadays, you see a lot of mainstream hip-hop rappers copy what they see on MTV and the like. You see them rapping about girls, money & cars.. and quite frankly, its stupid. Most of them, do not even know the ethics behind "sampling" beats. All they do is literally cut a sample and loop it. Sometimes, even using recent songs to sample. I mean, that goes to show that a lot of or rappers today do not even know the tradition and like what I said, the ethics behind hip-hop. I would like to correct you, I hope you do not take offense, cus I'm really a huge fan of your blog & your show. haha.. But I really believe that ANDREW E. is NOT the best freestyle rapper in the Philippines. He is good, no doubt... RESPECT TO THE GUY and his mission promoting hip-hop music =) But I hope you take the time to journey the underground scene of hip-hop here in the Philippines. And you will be surprised with the overflowing non-bullshit talent we have down here. :) We have the mind, the passion and the goal to spread music. Recently, the underground hip-hop scene started this new thing called Rap Battle League, taking inspiration from GRIND TIME and KING OF THE DOT, both catering to battle hip-hop. You can you tube it. :) Aside from that, most of the under-ground hip-hop emcees are continuously producing music way better than what you would normally see or hear.
I just hope this message sparked an interest in your part, and to your readers as well. Just try attending one gig or try to google "underground hip-hop in the Philippines" just to see the culture, and we hope to see you someday in one of our events. =)
